This 4-day safari combines two extraordinary experiences: trekking Uganda’s mountain gorillas in the ancient Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and conquering the stunning Mount Bisoke in Rwanda. It’s an adventure that blends close encounters with endangered primates and the thrill of hiking a volcanic peak with breathtaking views of the Virunga ranges and its crater lake.
Day 1: Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Arrive in Kigali and meet your guide for a scenic drive through Rwanda’s countryside before crossing into Uganda. The journey offers views of terraced hills, local villages, and the Virunga Mountains in the distance. Arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, settle into your lodge, and prepare for your gorilla trekking adventure the following day.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking. Venture into the dense rainforest, accompanied by rangers, to track one of Bwindi’s gorilla families. Once you encounter them, spend a magical hour observing their behavior in the wild. Afterward, return to the lodge for lunch before driving back across the border into Rwanda, arriving near Volcanoes National Park for an overnight stay.
Day 3: Mount Bisoke Hike
Begin the day with a hike up Mount Bisoke, one of the Virunga volcanoes. The trek takes you through bamboo forests and afro-montane vegetation, with a chance to see birds and other wildlife along the way. At the summit, marvel at the spectacular crater lake and panoramic views of the Virunga ranges. Descend and return to your lodge for a relaxed evening.
Day 4: Return to Kigali – Departure
After breakfast, drive back to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule, you may visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial or local craft markets before being transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
