Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Arrive at Kigali International Airport. Meet your guide for a transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (approximately 4 to 5 hours drive). Stop for lunch at a local restaurant en route. Continue your journey while taking in the scenic views of the countryside. Arrive at your lodge in Bwindi. Brief orientation about the safari and gorilla trekking. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Start your day with an early breakfast at the lodge. Head to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking rules and group assignment. Start the trek into the forest to find a habituated gorilla family. The trek can take 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. Spend up to one hour with the gorillas, observing their behavior and taking photographs. Return to the lodge for lunch and some rest. Optional community visit to learn about local culture. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park with a game drive in the Ishasha Sector
The day starts with breakfast at the lodge. You will then drive to the Ishasha Sector for an en route game drive. This region is famous for being home to tree-climbing lions. There are other animals, such as buffalo, elephants, warthogs, and antelopes. The drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park is approximately 2-3 hours. Arrive at the park and check into your lodge. Enjoy dinner and spend the night over.
Day 4: Game Drive, Boat Cruise and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Early breakfast and set out for a game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Look for elephants, lions, buffaloes, and other wildlife. Take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, where you may spot hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. Take a break for lunch and depart for Lake Bunyonyi (approximately a 2-3 hour drive). Check in at your lakeside lodge. Relax by the lake, take in the scenery, and consider taking a swim. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 5: Explore Lake Bunyonyi and Return to Kigali
Breakfast at the lodge. Optional activities include canoeing, visiting local islands, or hiking in the area. Enjoy lunch at the lodge or en route, depending on your flight schedule. Depart for Kigali (approximately 3-4 hour drive). Arrive in Kigali, if time permits, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial. Transfer to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight or overnight stay in Kigali. This marks the end of your 5 days Uganda gorilla safari from Kigali.
